A towel used to be just a towel, in my opinion. You take one and dry, then home. Next, I had a really good one, and all of a sudden the thin ones in my cupboard became a bad habit. So, should you pay extra for cotton beach towels? Yes, that’s my experience. But let me spill the beans on why, in no fancy words.
The Moment It Clicked
It wasn’t dramatic. After a dip in the water, I wrapped myself in a soft cotton towel and it felt like a hug. That’s it. It was soft, absorptive, and did not weigh down on me.
It was the little detail that made the afternoon so different than I expected! I stayed longer. I relaxed more. A towel can do that. The difference between a rushed day and a cared for day.

What is the quality here?
So many people use the term, let’s make it more specific. The best towel will be made from high-quality cotton or a clever mix that will be soft on the skin and not fall apart after a hundred washings. It dries you out right. Will not fray after a season. It never loses its suppleness, either after the initial cost is gone or after it has been worn out.
Long fibre cotton features prominently in this. The fibres of Egyptian cotton are long, silky and prove to be strong and soft at the same time. Turkish cotton is light and absorptive, thus dries easily. Organic cotton is not only soft on the skin, but also good for the environment. Choose the right one for you and you’ll experience the quality right away.
Is it really that important to make the Weave?
More than I wanted! A tighter weave is luxurious and absorbs more water. Light weave dries fast and is easy to travel with. I have both now and they serve different purposes. The plush one resides at home for weekend beach days. This is the lighter one, I take on trips.
When you start seeing weave, it’s hard not to see it. It’s similar to finding good coffee. The low-quality items suddenly become bland. This applies equally to blankets that are woven with fine yarns, where the feel is created by the technique of weave.
It is a story about size and design and little joys. It’s about size, design and little joys.
Standard towels are approximately 30 by 60 inches, oversized towels can be up to 40 by 70 inches. I’ll be honest, I’m a big guy now. The additional space will allow me to read without sliding over the edge and sharing with friends is a little less embarrassing.
Design is a more important part than I realised. Whether it’s a bold stripe or a calm neutral, adding an accessory to a towel is just as important as adding a pair of sunglasses or a nice pair of swimwear. This gives the whole project a selected look. I would pick up anything that was clean. Now I choose one like I would choose a throw for the sofa.
How are the towels made?
That I began to ask and the answer was fascinating. Hudson & Company is a textile-based fabric manufacturer based in the United States, that has been around for more than 25 years producing fully custom woven blankets and towels. They are crafted in America with fabrics that include design and this is what makes their products so durable and high quality.
They work with brands and distributors and the music industry to sell merch at shows, festivals and tours – that means that these towels are actually for real and hard use. If you’re looking for luxurious beach towels that will last, it’s a good idea to know who makes them. They value reliable production and rapid turnaround and it reflects in their approach to quality.
Do I really love them differently?
Yes, I do and it’s simple. A new towel is washed prior to the first use. I don’t use a fabric softener as it coats the fibres and reduces absorption of cuts. I dry it in the sun when I can, as it stays fresh when dried in the sun. And I always shake out the sand before it goes in the machine.
That’s four habits. Nothing fancy. After all, my towels are still soft, and will be for years to come, just like the precious blankets that have been lovingly knitted from hand and last forever. This is what made me leave no doubt about quality other than the actual buy. It’s all about the follow through.
Does the Good Towel dry you off or do it more?
Constantly. Yoga mat cover, picnic blanket, sea breezy evening blanket and a fancy travel accessory are just a few of those things mine has become. In every case, it did a fine job.
It’s the flexibility, that’s why I stopped counting the cost of use and way I use it. One thin towel will get one job and do it poorly. A dozen towels and they’re all good with a good towel. From this perspective, it’s not too much to spend.
So, Are They Worth It?
Yes, for me, definitely. Quality cotton beach towels actually become more affordable with the passage of time, as they will last longer, feel better and make normal days more enjoyable. No need to have a lot of them in your cupboard. A few cleverly picked up towels will make beach days a different experience.
If you’ve been making thin versions, treat yourself to a slight upgrade! Experience a soft, fluffy cotton towel for the first time. It may turn out, as I discovered, that you’re not going back. Truthfully, that’s a pretty fine problem to have.
